Our Team

John Hodge, P.E.

Founder

With 25 years of structural engineering expertise, John founded Hodge Engineering on a straightforward principle: engineering should clarify construction, not complicate it. A licensed P.E. in four states, John specializes in residential projects—from complex hillside foundations to custom home framing—delivering solutions focused on safety, clarity, and dependability.

A Washington State University graduate, John began his career at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, spending eight years in the reactor engineering division as a Nuclear Engineer. That period brought more than just foundational technical precision; it was also during his time at PSNS that he met and married his wife, Shelley, now his partner of 35 years.

Engineering runs in the family—their son recently made John and Shelley proud grandparents. When John isn't solving complex structural puzzles for clients, he enjoys family life and celebrating the next generation of engineers.

Ian Hodge, P.E.

Lead Engineer

Ian ensures your structural plans are designed to pass city and county reviews quickly without over-engineering your budget. After graduating from Washington State University in 2018 with his B.S. in Civil Engineering, Ian joined the team to engineer Northwest homes, earning his P.E. in 2023 and building a strong reputation with local builders and designers.

A Gig Harbor native, Ian’s connection to the community runs deep. He recently bought a home in the area with his wife, Lexi, and the two just welcomed a baby boy—officially kicking off the next generation of the Hodge family legacy.
